Tower Hamlets Building Sustainable Communities (THBSC) project is an ambitious and innovative project funded by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Objective 2 Programme, and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets (LBTH).
Background and project coverage: Tower Hamlets is an area that has experienced extensive regeneration over the last two decades through a range of Government programmes from the URBAN Programme, through City Challenge, area SRBs, New Deal for Communities and the European Community Objective 2. However, the borough still experiences some of the highest levels of deprivation and skills shortages in the UK.
This project (THBSC) aims to tackle the barriers to economic opportunities experienced by individuals and communities living within the Community Economic Development (CED) area of Tower Hamlets. It intends to achieve this by building on existing networks and initiatives through targeted capacity building of individuals, and community and voluntary organisations.
The Project also contributes to:
Total project budget: £1,066,911.00
(composed of ERDF, LBTH and Partners match funding contribution)
Project period: 1st July 2005 to February 2008
